Those of us who were lucky enough to be around during the original ABBA years in the seventies will all recall these lovely huge Scandecor and Verkerke,Minerva posters .
I know that every time I went into town with my mum from 1976 onwards the stores would all carry these posters .In the UK in Blackpool it was Woolworths and WH Smiths,Lews`s,Binns and more of the small stores too.
They would have those huge poster racks where you could flip through the latest bands posters and choose the coresponding poster by number below.
I can tell you that a good thrid of all those racks were devoted to ABBA alone..plus I remember those great cardboard stands that only contained ABBA posters .
I can still remember the excitement I felt when I found a new poster and then the worry when you looked underneath to see if the rolled poster was there to buy.
My bedroom was covered every inch with posters and pin ups...such good memories..
The fold out poster magazine above was the first one I ever got.I was on a day trip with my nanna by train to a nearby town.I guess this was 1976 and I had just begun my ABBA obsession. It was in WH SMITHS and I convinced my Nanna to spend the 35 pence to buy it for me.I was dissapointed there was not more in it to read on the way home by train but I treasure that magazine still .I thought the photo on the front looked like Bjorn and Agnetha had a fight. That woried me LOL
Arrival was the second poster I got and it stunned me when I saw it,so beautiful and still my all time favourite ABBA photo. This poster or photo is really the only COOL photo I think ABBA ever did.
The third one I bought and a lovely poster ,great pic of Bjorn I thought and that lovely blue ..
The fourth poster and stillone of the best photos ever..almost as cool as Arrival and equally good of all of them.
I really liked the way the ABBA lettters orlogo was used on this poster and the later pink one..so funky .Can you hear the drums Fernando
My second fave photo of all time..I love the non smiling ones for some reason and what a cool way to have them sit..I thought the girls looked so sexy in this shot..LOVE it..
Another classic fave..The poster was so well tinsely and so unusual..Too bad they did not do more from this session..Loved the way they all looked except Benny.I thought he looked like the boring older brother in this pic.
My fourth most fave poster..not as good quality as the Scandecor ones but I love how young they all look on here and that great laugh of Fridas makes the poster. One of the best photo sessions ABBA had in the early years .
What can I say..but STUNNING BEAUTIFUL looking ladies and a great photo with the sunlight on them..what natural beauties compared to nowadays ladies of pop.
This one is the fifth fave and although so Kitsch it is a fantastic pose .I wonder who thought that Frida should lay her head on Agnethas chest its a sexy shot of the girls and the guys looked good too .A great shot of Benny in his slimmer years.
This one rounds out my top six faves..and It was huge too.
A shot of ABBA I wasnt familiar withback then and I remember the lady in the store had to get step ladders to reach it on the wall when we bought it.Love it..
Lovely poster of all of them and a great pose yet again so natural
LI bought this from Germany back in the days when you had to write snail mail and send cash..I thought it was so foreign looking and had great pics ..ALPHABEAT magazine..A nice alternative shot from the blue satin suits sessions.
LI think this is a stunning shot too but I was dissapointed in the curly look Frida went to in 78..so it always put me off a little of this poster.
I also didnt like that Agnetha cut her hair
The Voulez Vouz period was not my fave compared to the early years..but a beautiful photo of the girls..Frida in particular looked so fantastic and classy in this poster and the slightly see through dress..
This poster I didnt get until 79 but another stunning photo of two stunning women.Too bad it was smaller for a poster.
A great shot but I prefered the 77 tour costumes so not one of my faves..Not a great photo of the ladies
This is a rare UK only poster for the Keep britain Tidy campaign..very unusual for ABBA to be involved in a campaign and they also did the Aussie version too..
Nice photo and my girlfriend Jackie convinced the staff at the local Police Station to take this down and give it to her..She let me borrow it only recently..
I dont like this poster and was shocked when it came out..Hate the hairstyles and the clothes..not a good period for me..Nice colours though..
